Small producers payment schemesHello everybody... my first ever post to this BB.
I'm keen to break away from Tesco & Sainsburys, but I do most of my buying on credit card and don't always have the actual real cash for making ad-hoc small purchases.
This presents me with a problem: at a farmer's market for example, I can hardly buy a single loaf of lovingly baked organic bread on a credit card! And even if that weren't silly, many smaller businesses don't take credit anyway.
So, does anyone know of any schemes where fruit, veg & meat produce may be purchased in small, ad-hoc quantities and then paid for in one go - in advance or to clear a slate?

Box schemes are the only place where I've seen this sort of thing, sadly. Although there are plans afoot for a farmers market-like place in west london where you'll 'buy' from the producers but it will be totted up and paid for at the end at a till. Think there was an article in a Country Living a little way back about it (although it might have been Country Kitchen ... )

Is it so difficult to keep some cash handy?

Yes - I run a young business and cash flow can be somewhat erratic.

Hi Andrew. I don't know if they deliver out your way, but I used to use a very good box scheme called Northern Harvest when we were in Merseyside that was basically a farmer's co-operative. Once a week deliveries, and payment by credit card for fresh bread, milk etc as well as veg and fruit.

Why not ask your local veg shop for an account and pay monthly.

You're a software engineer, according to my spies, and you run a small business, and want to buy from other small businesses, without cash.
Spider sense tingling, and that, but does your business do software things, like web pages, or accounts, or hosting, or something?
Is there scope for trading your services for goods? I know not many greengrocers need a website, but, you never know?

Actually that's a good point Nick. I was speaking to a wood turner last night who said that she desperately wants to have a website set up but knows next to nothing about computers and has little cash to spare. She indicated that she would be more than willing to exchange wood turned products for a simple website to be constructed for her.

Hey, I had a job interview yesterday as a Business Development Manager. Do I got it, or do I got it?

I don't want to buy without cash as such, I just want to be able to lump numerous small purchases together into one larger lump that can be paid weekly or monthly.

Yes, thought of that ... I'll investimagate.

Possibly. I'll mull on it...
