Solar hot water

Just had a salesman round from this company:

http://www.solarsense-uk.com/

Looking into installing a solar hot water system in our home.

Sales pitch from these guys was rather akin to double glazing sales, with regular calls to the boss to see what discounts would be available etc. Net result is that the cost of the system was a heck of a lot more than we'd expected (although, like with glazing companies, they asked us to keep the quoted price confidential).

Still at the 'look see' stage of this really.

Anyone got any advice? What companies should I be talking to?
chez

Navitron, I would say. We were very happy with them - they have local installers and are a fraction of the cost of a lot of places.
HenX

The other company to talk to are Eco-Nomical. Our neighbours got their solar hot water from them and are delighted. (supposedly cheaper than Navitron Shocked )

Could you not build a system yourself - surely that would be the cheapest option of all.

Not necessarily the best option though; I intend that this links in with our existing gas powered water heating (combi condensing boiler), and I'm more inclined towards the evacuated tubes system than simple water pipes.

Get your self over to the Navitron forum & see what's what. Plenty of advice from end users & installers.

good kit but do the self spec route Wink
easy peasy and very green

For a decent evacuated tube system the gear can be bought cheaply and the fitting done by a reasonable plumber for a fraction of the cost of these firms, many of wnom seem to have moved straight from selling double glazing and conservatories to Solar systems Smile

Oh forgot to mention that Navitron have a very cheap deal/special subsidised offer on at the min (only 2 place left) IF you can meet some conditions.
