Spinning YarnsRadio 4 Wednesday 11:00 Spinning Yarns
A History of the Cotton Industry: 1/4. Paul Mason visits Cromford Mill to discover how cotton heralded the industrial revolution and dominated British exports for over a century.
I'll be listening to this one with interest, my dad's family used to grow cotton (very small scale), one of dad''s first jobs was in the UK at a cotton mill in Lancashire, and I've been selling cotton garments for most of my life.

Thanks. I'm going to make a big effort to watch this. Coming from Manchester and having also lived in Lancashire, I'd like to know more about it as I feel I mostly perceive the negative side.
The Manchester mills had mostly closed before I was born, but they still dominated the entire landscape/cityscape when I was growing up.
One of my grandmothers worked in the mills from around 9 years old. My other grandmother hated the mills. She was very proud that although she had seen quite a few lean times, she never, ever took a job in a mill.

You'd do better to listen to it, it appears to be wireless broadcast and may be a bit visually dull.

Won't be much fun watching it, unless your radio has a nice multicoloured flashing display thingy or summat....

My radio has much better pictures than any TV, though...
