Storage

Do my jars of preseves have to be kept in the dark? I have always kept them on the top shelf of the larder which is cool and dark. I was thinking it would be nice to have some out in the kitchen. I have pickle, chutney and jam and also some flavoured oil

They'll keep better in the dark. The colours will tend to fade a little in the light, but that isn't an emergency unless you're keeping them out in the light for a long time. Strawberry jam looks a bit poor if it's been kept out, for example, but if what you're planning is having a few out for a while before you eat them, I wouldn't worry about it.

As Cab says, if you have a lot of jars, then a cool, dark pantry is by far the best place for them. But definitely keep a few on view. I love to see jars of preserves all lined up - a promise of good things to come. And some things look really decorative too. Bottles of oil and jars of pickles, particularly.

I have quite a lot of jars. I've been squirreling Laughing

I could keep out tha jars we are using. I think tehy are nice to look at too. One of my books has a picture of a cabinet with the shelves full of different jars of preserves and it looks great
