Stupid newbie question -

Whats the best way to find your "local hunter with excess"? For many reasons i want to feed my dogs (AND OH) on a more natural (compared to intensive farmed chicken) diet.

But im a veggie and refuse to kill anything myself, and the chances of my dogs catching anything is less than zero. The last time one of my dogs came close to a rabbit she watched it run away and went to sniff where it had been sitting Laughing

Ive tried butchers, farm shops and even the local farmers market but it was all rubbish and not at all what i want. Anything online is great but blimmin expensive Confused

Umm, talking to people. My OH's head of department shoots, so we get pheasants and the odd duck in exchange for quince jelly/pickled onions/whatever. Are there any shoots near you?

I know there is as i can hear them (petrified dog Rolling Eyes ) but god knows where they actually are. Will do a google and see if i can find anything Smile

Find out where your local shooting estate is and ask to buy surplus birds on a regular basis, but be quick as the season for game ends at the end of the month(rabbits until march-ish).
Pheasant in the feather will be about 50-60p/brace.

Other good sources would be fishing/shooting shops as they are usually the places for good information.

Best of luck.
