Summer's lease hath all too short a date...The first tonne of maincrop spuds arrive at the chippy tomorrow.

I mentioned to folk at the hog roast on Saturday that I had lifted my maincrop (because of blight). They reminded me that maincrop tatties up here used to be lifted in mid-October, which coincided with half-term - this had been institutionalised because otherwise so many children were 'off sick' from school for the tattie-howking.

Ah, fond memories of the tattie holidays! Scottish children still get a tattie holiday.

Maris Bard. They make perfectly OK chips but don't 'hold', so they go soggy if people carry them home before eating them or they have to be kept in the hot box.

How did you enjoy 1646? I have been known to do a bit of wenching for them.

No, but I could maybe meet you after in the tea shop for cakes & so forth. What time are you going? I've got to go into school for a bit to do things with some of the more delicate members of the new intake, but only for a couple of hours.

We want to get there about 10.30, as long as I get the rooms done fairly smartish.
I can always ring you when we get there.

OK, but I expect I'll be in town anyway in the morning, so I'll pop in and see if you're there.

not to sure who was frying but we were served by a girl with black and white 'dreadlocks', im guessing extentions of some sort but was more interested in the chips to be honest, we was starving.
it was an older guy and woman abd the girl in the shop at the time we was there
and what a perfect meeting that would of been if you had been wenching, wouldnt have known we had met until I posted the pics
the guys at torrington will remember me and my mate cos he had on a memrobal rugby shirt with all the flags of the 5 nations on it andhe got picked on to do pike training and have bladder stones removed.
it was fantastic but i didnt realise it went on so long, we didnt get out till gone 4 so the gig was over by the time we left.
