SunburntHello guys,
I think the pigs got sunburnt yesterday ! believe it or not in Ireland
I don't think it's much to worry about because they feed well enough this morning, and it's raining so it had a chance to cool them down somehow.
Any ideas or suggestions
Thanks,
Camile

I'm in the wrong bit of Ireland! Will refrain from crackling jokes. Used to have a white cat that I had to put sun block on his ears!
Maybe a muddy wet shady bit in their run....or are they free ranging sun lovers?
Actually i know nothing about pigs - sorry

At one time, I was getting beer slops from the local pub to feed to my weaners. One sunny morning, I had a phone call from the pub asking me to bring their container back ASAP because the other one was nearly full. Without really thinking, I swiftly emptied a fair few gallons of beer into the pigs trough and left them to it. By the time I got back home, they were quite literally out for the count. I had to drag them by their hind legs under the shade to stop them from burning but to be honest, they couldn't have cared less what I did to them.

One of our three (on Anglesey) got a touch of 'sunburnt ear' a couple of weeks ago ... they simply seem to love sunbathing and have no interest in seeking shade!
No damage done, just a bit of redness.
I did think about making little elasticated ear covers with Judith's Ugly Fabric but on second thought, felt it might be a bit humiliating for the pigs.

The ones at home get a wallow, and if its a really hot day and no clouds i will even put some sun cream on the welsh's ears and neck.. the OSB doesnt have much problems and is smart enough to go in the shade, when her belly gets too warm.. i think the welsh boar is slightly twp (in otherways too, not just the sun).
The KK loves sunbathing, he stretches out, feet and all.. he gets a bit of sun cream if the tips of his ears are pink. (below back view of him)
