Sunday cycle...Bugs and I went out for a cycle to collect some chestnuts from a tree we've been keeping an eye on. Noticed couple of types of agaricus, quite a few wood muchrooms and a large patch of something like a field mushroom but with a darker cap. We noticed several shaggy parasols, a very large plain parasol and plenty of other fungi about.
There were plenty of wild apples about but we don't have much room at the moment for more wine with 12 gallons of various things currently bubbling away.
Managed to collect some decent sized chestnuts which are much more elongated than ones we've found before. The best find was made by Bugs, a yellow/green fruited Bullace. Most of the fruit was out of reach but we've managed to pick a few to identify and try.

Sounds good - it's been raining all day here, so I've been stuck indoors . The chestnut trees near me don't seem to produce proper nuts, they are just empty shells. Shame as there are loads of them.

Have you checked in a freshly fallen prickly case? We often find that the green prickly cases only contain one decent fruit and a couple of thin useless fruits. Unless you open a fresh green case we also tend to find animals make off with the plump nuts quite quickly so you don't find that many laying about and you have to open the prickly cases to find them. A quick tip to open the cases is to gently roll them with your foot until they open.

Yup I've tried the foot rolling thing , but not for a week or two - I think the early falls are least likely to have viable nuts so I'd better go and have another look soon (and take my gardening gloves with me!).
