suppliers of hedgingAnyone on here got any recommendations for places to buy hedging in North West?
We want to plant a mixed hedge round the perimeter of our allotment site - it's quite a big site and has recently been extended.
We need something thorny as protection against vandalism and theft and also to provide good wildlife habitat, interest, food for bees etc etc.

we've just put an order in with hope grove nurseries - based in kent, found them in the farmers guardian, the prices look reasonable and they do nationwide deliveries, they do have a minimum order size though.

We used a company in N Ireland via eBay.
Good prices, varied stock, sound advice.
I wanted to use the local grower but at double the cost it was a non starter. If we had been getting a grant I would have used them.

Don't think minimum order will be a problem - we need lots!

Both in the SW, but I know a chap via the farmer's market. I'll find out his details and PM you. And there's also Adam's Apples - talatonplants.co.uk - who we have had stuff from in the past and can recommend too.

Have you looked into available grants & free trees from your county tree officer.
I know mine where offering free trees until a year or so ago.

Buckingham Nurseries are good, you can get a broad range of hedging plants posted to you, but they're not in the North West.

I'm planning on getting some hedging from here http://www.hedgesdirect.co.uk/ They have a really good selection of hedges; we're going for crab apple and possibly blackthorn.

Alba trees recommended by my WLT for cell grown- quicker to bulk up and easier to handle.
