Surprise pink cracking boletus find...Title says it all really, walking back from town stumbled upon some boletus that I rarely ever encounter here in Cambridge.
Funny old year for mushrooms. Also have several horse mushrooms in the fridge, some fairies, and some St. Georges.

Seems to be different down this way.
St George's were a bit early, or were they? Peaking on or just after St George's day. But it was a very good season for them.
Good season for COTW and these were bang on time.
I got a good haul of Fairy Rings about a month ago. There are some about now but not that many - I'm sure some rain would bring them on.
Chanterelles - started fruiting just over a week ago (bang on time) and over the weekend I picked enough for two. However, I'm sure it won't be like last year when we had these in huge numbers.
Oyster mushrooms were out in numbers two weeks ago. Still plenty about but last year they fruited in March.
By this time last year I noticed a few Boletus but nothing now.
I would say that (especially compared to last year which was odd) it is about average for mushrooms - nothing funny.

Oh, its decidedly odd here. St Georges were late, more patches of agaricus fruiting than usual, chicken of the woods is a banker here but MASSIVELY prolific this year, fairy rings fruiting more prolifically than normal, and to find any boletus on our soil is always a pleasant surprise. Good year so far.

Only found a few agaricus this year and nothing worth eating. So far Fairy Rings less prolific than last year. And of course St George's were early. Good year so far but then last year was good until the Autumn (the main season) which was rubbish all over the UK.
2006 was fantastic for Penny Buns. 2007 was not good but I still got some nice ones. Still have a bit dried.
Oh, it's been rubbish for Common Morels this season just about everywhere.

D'ya know, I've never spotted a fairy yet, never mind eaten one. I guess I'm just not paying attention properly.

Problem? Who said that there was a problem? All I said was that it hadn't been funny/odd. To me what you describe just seems like a normal spring find(s), but maybe I expect too much
