SW Christmas do 28/11/09

The village hall is here.

Come off the A386 at the top of Torrington Hill, opposite the Commons where the castle bonfire can be seen.

Go down Limers Hill (B3227) past the old milk factory and over the bridge. Turn left opposite the chapel and go up the hill about 50 yards. The hall is on a corner where a steep lane goes up to the right.

To park drive past the hall and find a spot along the road.

so we've potentially got

It this exclusive or inclusive? I put my hand up but the only person around to see it was Tim who thought I was asking to go to the toilet. I'm at work by the way.

A bit. Just tucked into a big bowl of chicken soup just like my mum used to make me when I was a kid. Always makes me feel better (and the steam coming off it is clearing my sinuses). Anyway, hadn't you better go back to organising your gathering?
Jamanda

Nah, I'm going for a bath. I was just wondering if enough people fancied it to make it a goer.

Hands up if you are interested, then I can gauge if it would be feasible, and what and where.

Not sure yet, but if you have the do in November, we should be okay. I don't choose Turkey day, my friend does all that.
Jamanda

OK - At the moment I think it's looking more like a pub meet than hiring somewhere from numbers. I'll wait till the end of the week. Chez and Arvo are off line, and there's a few others about. It would be nice to have enough to do something like the Earwig Convention last year.
Stacey

I might - depending where and when
Jamanda

Well it looks like the end of Nov, and I was thinking of booking Taddiport village hall for a an afternoon session with a meal.
Brownbear

We would like to join in the fun.
Stacey

Is Taddiport doable on the train? I want to get some use out of my various railcards Very Happy

Good heavens - it means Toad Gate and it used to be a leper colony. Do I really want to eat my lunch there? Laughing
sean

The nearest station to us is Barnstaple. You could get a bus from there or one of us could come and pick you up.
Brownbear

We will be going there from Exeter, and could take three there and back.
Stacey

Hmmm - train to Barnstaple or Exeter is eminently doable Cool
yummersetter

we'd like to come, if life's running smoothly again by then - except, just to be sure what I'm signing up for - what exactly was the Earwig Convention?
Brownbear

Stacey wrote:

We have to drive right past Exeter St. David's on our way up to North Devon, so that would be no problem at all.
mochyn

Is there any news of a Welsh equivalent yet?

He's probably fine, just never gets in touch

That would be great, would it be a Saturday?

Think so, then people have Sunday to recover/get home.
Brownbear

We can offer a spare double bed and a double sofa-bed for anyone coming from further afield.

I expect everyone to be up and down the beach by 6am. Wink

Actually I'm flexible and don't tend to sort things out until a day or two before hand.

It'll probably just be me and I can bring a sleeping bag, mat and pillow so all I need is floor space.
Chez

It's two hours from us but we have a spare bed if anyone would like it.

come with me!
Jamanda

More Hurrahs!

I've booked the hall.
It's a nice, little, old hall, a spit away from the river Torridge with good walks and with a little garden area at the back. Walking distance from Torrington and our house, though there is a rather steep hill involved on the way back up.

OK, so that's one for a lift. We can take two more, and as I said there's a spare bed for anyone who wants it. I don't drink so am happy to drive back after the Bacchanal has concluded.
Jamanda

I think Stacey probably comes with smaller persons needing a lift too.

When are they going to put a cable car on Mill St.

That'd be fab, thanks Very Happy We can always bring a double inflatable mattress and need only floor space too, if you get full Smile

'citing!
sean

We've got room for six before people need to start bringing mattresses and the like. Anyhoo, we can sort that out nearer the time.
Jamanda

Erm we're up to seven now - which is fine. Just need to know how many for sat only and how many or Friday too.
sean

Are we? Shocked Nobody tells me anyfink...
Fee

We'll probably stop off in Somerset on the Friday night and come over Saturday.
yummersetter

Oh, is this going to be our autumn visit then? Don't time fly by Smile
Fee

Smile I think it's a must, don't you? Probably a flying one, tea and cake? Very Happy We know far too many people in Somerset these days Wink
yummersetter

well, we're hoping to make it to Devon too, so if you need to conserve your time for 'other folk' do, not that you wouldn't be exceedingly welcome, either coming or going.

We've just got to train new dog not to howl and shriek when left in the house alone, first Rolling Eyes He's never been away from his family before so it's taking a bit of time. At least now he's sleeping through the night without crying.

All the pages seem to be OK now - but never mind, it's the last weekend in November, at Taddiport Village Hall near Torrington. Times will be finalised a bit nearer the time.
Hope that you can make it.
Jamanda

Important question.

Do we have any veggies, or anyone that needs gluten free stuff or anything coming?
Fee

Equally important question - what cake shall I make? Very Happy

How's this for an embyronic plan? We meet at the hall early afternoonish. People can socialise, go for a walk, swap, barter etc. About 5ish we'll eat a big vat of something like Irish stew, made by Sean and me (Ali - we may need to come and borrow a big catering pot in advance if that's OK?) Volunteers to bring homemade bread/cakes would be great. I know we'll get loads of cake - if we don't have any bread bakers coming, there is a good bakers in town so I can get nice bread anyway.

Then after a leisurely tidy away we can work off the meal by jogging up the one in four hill to the pub for the evening - (only joking about the jogging!)

Obviously people will come and go as their time/circumstances dictate.
Chez

I can bring bread.
Jamanda

Chez wrote:

Cewell - just need pudding then.
I'll get some clotted cream to go with what ever people bring.
And I'll organise soft drinks - anyone wanting to bring beer/wine etc please feel free Laughing We'll bring down a bottle or two of home brew as well.

I take it there are no veggies then?
gardening-girl

I can bring pudding or bread!
If we bring Dora the Explorer, is there anywhere we can camp for the night?(We have heating!)
Jamanda

I'm sure you could squeeze her in somewhere close by. I'm afraid we don't have space, but if you just need somewhere to park up I'm sure we could find somewhere close by. If you need an actual campsite, then Alison is about 3/4 hour away, and there is another nice one about 4 miles away.
gardening-girl

Don,t really need a campsite for just one night, depends on alcahol intake!

Yep, Led Zep are reforming to do an acoustic show for us...

Erm - yes - the hall is booked - we've got a putative menu. I'm assuming everyone's got it in their diaries.
Fee

Contemplating my Christmas baking and realised it's only 4 weeks till the SW gathering!

Shall I do a Christmas cake? How many are we? And should we bring a box of TEA fromt brewery?

We could do bread too, if required. And do you need some money for the hall?

edit: forgot Sean and Mandy aren't here atm Rolling Eyes
lettucewoman

bum.

got a two day craft fair.

on that weekend.
