Technology meets hedgrowWhen out and about foraging, if I find a particully productive site or a where it isn't yet quite ripe, I log the position in my GPS.
Am I the only one geeky enough to do this or do other people log their finds ?
What other interesting foraging techniques do you use?

I will admit there is one kind of maze of fields round here, where I might actually find that a useful technique

Can I program in reminders as well? Things like 'don't go picking blackberries in shorts' would be helpful. The back of my left leg is covered in nettle stings

I actually use my phone alot of the time, it has built in GPS.
A cheap garmin etrex shouldbe available on ebay for sub 50 ukp. Or find a nice nokia 6220 on contract somewhere?

I try to use my (paper) diary to jot reminders like that in. I also try/intend to keep such records in my blog. In practice I just forget, mostly!

For any who haven't seen it, said blog is well worth a look.

I do most of my mushroom foraging in the New Forest & I use a combination of an OS map (1:25k) , or my GPS, or in my head (when I've forgotten both map & GPS!). Oddly enough I can remember all the spots I've founds shrooms (surprising because I have an awful memory) & probably don't need really need map or technology....
