Thanks to dpack et al for the Almost Orpingtons :-)Just wanted to say a big thanks to dpack, Rob and Ixy for an interesting hour spent on the farm on Saturday and the opportunity to see my old friend Captain Buttercup again doing so well and obviously very happy. We miss the old fella.
Thanks also for the two lovely young ladies, some of Buttercup's offspring. Theo's Special Blend - or Almost Orpingtons as I've taken to calling 'em - are crossed with what appeared to be ISA Browns. Hence 'almost' Orpingtons because visually-speaking they look like Buff Orpingtons, they are as gentle as Buff Orpingtons but are not, technically speaking, Orpingtons! But they're lovely, and settling in very well.
They're not quite so friendly (yet) as dpack's own hand-reared Cheepy Cheep - that little hen was the sweetest one I've ever seen, a total pet, no doubt about her! - but our two are very easy to handle and quite calm.

My OH just suggested they're Cylon Orpingtons which, for anyone who's seen the remade Battlestar Galactica TV series, is quite apt!

Now there's a question. Perhaps they won't learn their secret until they start hearing The Birdie Song in their heads...
