the downside to natural paints

Just been painting an old oak box with an eggyolk and ochre tempera as part of a small project to turn it into a Roman style cupboard for a re-enactment event next week. Am having real problems convincing the cat not to lick the drying paint Rolling Eyes

now the cat has stopped licking it and its dry properly, we can put the legs on and a funny shaped top that will allow it to sit in the corner of the tent, and shelves. Will try to post a pic of the finished thing.

Have to say I love red ochre tempera, its such an easy paint to make, and it looks so good on wood Cool
Slim

so how do you make it? Very Happy

mix pigment with eggyolk, simple. Add a drop of water if you want it thinner.

nice
the ground matters ,plaster etc is ok if there will be no mechanical wear on objects a strong base is needed to hold the tempura
im not sure if the romans used gesso grosso, gesso sotile ,white lead under tempura but that was the system by the middle ages iirc
rabbit skin glue or similar to fix the gesso to objects
marigold

That's beautiful Sally Very Happy .

Didn't we used to have a natural painty person on here, did we even have someone advertising such things for a bit?
vanessa

Hardworkinghippy used / uses them a lot in her place here in France ... can't remember if she makes them herself though.

Ahh, yes, 'naturaldeco'.

Shame, he came, he posted, he advertised, he vanished.
