The Struggle Continues...

I'm listening to Jamanda phoning the other Commons Conservators to tell them to check their emails.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people don't check their e-mails very often. Good luck. Cathryn

Nasty dangerous thing this internetty stuff. Much nicer to pop round to talk it over a coffee. You're not busy are you? Wink Smile Mistress Rose

Some people in the coppice industry seem to think so. When you don't know where they are going to be and they don't answer their mobile phone either, it makes contact difficult though. gardening-girl

Our life has been very peaceful the last couple of weeks, Barrie lost his mobile phone. Very Happy Very Happy derbyshiredowser

We have just had a fortnight in Camelford with no internet access and an intermittant mobile signal very relaxing....until wednesday of the second week a text from no.1 son in the USA to say Nat west had stopped his bank card and then a few hours later no.2 son in Berlin with a very bad stomach bug. We then spent along time on the phone trying to sort things out, suddenly back to reality. Mistress Rose

And of course they have to have crises together and at long distance. Hope all is sorted out and they are both OK. wellington womble

I don't find no internet or phone relaxing at all. Its a complete pain. It's how I bank, check addresses and directions, get weather reports and information on local activities, contact friends and relations and arrange to meet up at said places of interest, take and post pictures to other relatives and friends, look up cooking times for quail eggs and a recipe for bread and butter pudding, consult my latest knitting pattern and make notes on modifications and read and listen to books, audio books and radio programmes. And that's just in the last few days - I hardly ever phone anybody, though! Rob R

Ditto - also I can reply to e-mails from a remote field while waiting for a water tank to fill up, but phoning would be a pain in the backside in that situation as you'd ring, there'd be no answer, so you'd wait, and then just as you started to drive home, or get on with something, they'd ring you back and talk for half an hour. Also, I can get in at 10pm or later and start on the e-mail/internet - trying ringing folk at that time, especially businesses, and you don't have a lot of luck.

I only use my mobile for phone calls as I have an old type. I can text, but don't find it easy and it takes me ages to work out how to deal with it. Most of the time it is turned off.

WW, I always print off things like patterns and recipes. I find it easier to read from the printed page than a screen, and you can see the whole recipe, which you can't unless you have a tablet of something. I do find having the internet useful, but mainly for our work, so if I didn't have that, I could probably manage without it, although I would miss contact with family, friends and forums.

Although I was involved in the technology that made all this possible, I sometimes feel the applications of it are getting away from me. Sad
