This Summers ProjectI bought this 'Liverpool Cart' a good many years ago. It wasn't in particularly good condition when I bought it, I did get quite a bit of use out of it, but then much to my shame, it was abandoned in the corner of the field and was left there for many years. The boys and I have just dragged it out of the brambles and I intend to totally renovate it back to its former glory.
Its going to take a lot of TLC and quite a bit of money. I will also need to glean a lot of information from the more handy members, so bare with me if you will.
The cart was made using what I think are known as military wheels and the tyres look to be from motorbikes. The tyres are all split and will have to be replaced once the wheels have been cleaned up.
Here I am with Doodles favourite, Bridget pulling the cart. This was taken many years ago when my kids did as I asked them.
The first thing I'll be doing, is finishing off stripping all the rotten wood off and then deciding what sort of wood to replace it with.
In my minds eye, one day I might be using this to collect the apples from my own cider orchard. A nice thought isn't it ? but at the moment thats quite a way off.

Sounds like a great project. Don't forget to take measurements of any bits you take off! Its amazing how easy it is to forget to do that as you go along and you end up having to remeasure everything about 10 times

Fab project Bodger - good luck with it. And don't forget to keep us informed of progress in words and pictures. It would make a great article for Downsizer...

It would, especially with that old photo - it would be good to have a photo with the same people on it again.

Cor, I'm jealous. It's the sort of thing that would be very popular for weddings, I would imagine. You might even end up getting it to pay for its own restoration!

Can you get the metalwork beadblasted and then repainted?
In terms of timber. A hardwood such as oak or beach?
Nice project.

I'm not sure a flat trades cart would be the most elegant or practical for wedding dresses. A hearse with wicker coffin perhaps?

A friend's father works for a local brewery. All staff are entitled to free usage of the dray and horses for weddings and funerals.

My new brother in-law arrived at his in 25k's worth of restored ford tractor last weekend. Stretch hummers haven't caught on with the yokels yet.
