Tips for the start of the shooting season

Anyone got any suggestions as to what's essential or useful to do at the start of the new shooting season ? Perhaps for those of us who've not shot much since early this year.

I always do target practice till I've 'got my eye in' again, and can consistently hit a 10p sized target at 25-30 metres. Should I be aiming to bullseye consistently, or is that sufficient ?

What else ?
Including annual maintenance type tasks.

Providing your quarry is no more than 25 mtrs away that would be good.

Seeing as I've got an air rifle, and that's its max effective range, I don't shoot quarry further away than that, so my preparation works for me. Wouldn't be sufficient for folk with other kinds of gun.

For those of us going pheasant shooting, go through safety drills again and again and again. If one is used to shooting alone most of the year, remember that now there will be people either side of us and don't forget NEVER TO SWING THROUGH THE LINE.

Even if no accident occurs, being sent home in disgrace is no end to a day out.
