to neck or not to neck?I have a dilemma, one of Peckys offspring has in the last few days shown me he is a he. He is a silky crossed with lots of other things so not a seller. however Abbie has fallen in love with him and I have promised her I will find him a home sooooooo
anyone wanna cockerel? He is beautiful and I will post pics later...
if not it will be the oven for him but I have to lie to Abbie about it....or do I?

You won't lie to her. Just doesn't seem you. She is old enough to understand and discuss the options?
It's hard isn't it. Ruby has learnt detachment. She has had to living on a farm but she struggled with it at first. I am proud of her now. I still check and she still cares and is still kind and caring with the animals and hens but is careful to keep a certain distance until she is sure they will not be food.

If you have made a promise to her you cannot break that.

My pennyworth - try finding him a home for the next few days as promised. If you fail, you can show how you've tried and then start the discussion about the fate of surplus cockerels.
Next door neighbours when I was a kid used to raise goslings each year. Their children were not allowed to name them. The parents always named the largest - Christmas Dinner.
