Track over a bog

I need to create a vehicle track over a boggy bit of field, any suggestions hot to?

I was thinking of putting down old sleepers and decking them with 6x2" planks, any better ideas?

Some one localy lost 2 x 40 plus ton tracked diggers doing just that sort of thing. It took the the Army tank recovery team days to get the diggers back out.

Any chance of dealing with the drainage first ?

What's the distance, and how boggy does it get?

about 50ft, gets very wet, off to dig a hole to see how deep it is

We dumped a couple of tippers worth of hardcore on our boggiest bit, scraped away as much of the soil as we could first. Our patch was only about 20-30 ft.

I think drain it dig it fill it.

Also consider using a fabric to separate the sub base from the infill. In our case - -not the worst I admit the fabric did help to allow the stone on top to squeeze out the water beneath and it formed (and has kept) a good firm surface.

This wont work if you are going to lose big diggers in the your bog!!!

I once worked on a farm where we got the combine and both tractors up to their axles in the same field. It took a tank recovery winch to get them out too. Very impressive and I've wanted one ever since.

well sorted with poles and sleepers, need to extend it a bit more though yet.

Looks good, but at 50ft and sleepers at, say £15 for a 10" span it's gotta be expensive?

sleepers cost £7, 14" cover per sleeper, 2 poles were £20 Very Happy

You do realise that such things are traditional... all the way back to the neolithic period, say 3000BC...
