turbine

How noisy are really big industrial wind turbines?

compared to say a running tractor, or car, or something.

I think that the noise of turbines pretty much increases in line with the size of them. Usually manufacturers give pretty good specs about how much noise they create, though usually they're in decibels.

Useful decibel description here. Hang in there until the helpful table at the end!

Thanks Arvo.

Unfortunately the company aren't giving out any info on noise levels at the moment. "We don't have any" apparently.
arvo

This is helpful too, with obvious bias though.
arvo

Are you trying to put one up or avoid the noise from someone elses? I should have asked that first shouldn't I? (Duh...)
alison

I am researching generally at the moment.

A neighbour is looking at siting 3 nearby.
alison

We are not entirely sure if we are for or against, but do have some worries that I need to clear up.

They will HAVE to give sound levels to the council as part of the PP application. Can you go online & look at PP applications?
alison

The pp isn't in yet. We have a letter about a meeting, and have been told that the initial talk with the council wasn't favourable.

Sounds like they've gone off a bit half-cocked. If I was even thinking of putting one up, I'd have done all of that kind of homework first. Certainly safety and nuisance info anyway as that's going to be the first things anyones going to ask.
Ratman2

Personally, I'd far rather have three wind turbines than noisey neigbours anyday.

Which are?
alison

Effect of noise on camping for one.

OK, I'm a newb, sorry! but I don't understand.
alison

I run a camp site.

How noisy are these things, and how much does the sound travel

A damn sight less than people having sex in a tent. Wink Wink
alison

I am looking for actual figures though. Confused

Then you'll have to be a bit pervie and record it next time it happens on your camp site. Very Happy Very Happy

Richard

Many thanks.

I have found 2 of those, but the others look great.
RichardW

You really need to know the make & model that they plan to use.
