TurnipWill Turnip seeds object to being planted in an area that has just been vacated by Potaoes? I have think they don't like being planted together so am unsure if it is ok to follow.

Can't see why it should be a problem

I don't know, but my crop rotation chart (pulled out of a magazine) says roots before spuds. Whereabouts in sunny Sussex are you DDD?

Turnips are brassicas as well as roots, so I reckon they will be fine. (This crop rotation business does my head in ).

I'm a Worthing-ite too - migrated from Brighton a couple of years ago .

I always sow my swedes in a spot vacated by spuds, and turnips are fine too.

Is that as in sowing from seed ?
I got my poor efforts sown and planted out earlier, but if there's still time to resow direct after spuds, then I will. Though that's usually where I put the winter alliums (onions, garlic, leeks). But should have space for some more swedes too.

I've been considering sowing swedes in paper pots, but as I've never failed when sowing from seed I think I'll do that again, probably this weekend. I usually block sow, just to get a dozen or so swedes to get us through winter. It isn't her favourite veg, but I like to have it from time to time. I put a lot more work into getting a good crop of winter squashes.
Fennel follows spuds very well too.

Marigold - Most of my veg is grown on the Chesswood Farm allotments
Gil - Yes sowing from seed the packet suggests sowing is ok up to July but our gardening books suggest August is OK to for golf ball sive Turnips
All - Thanks for the info, Pulled a row of spuds yesterday (they are whoppers) and first row of turnip seed planted.

You could always go for sweet spring turnips....
They hardly take any time at all
