I've always considered the MCS to be defacto. Not heard of the other.

One says "The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is the UK charity dedicated to caring for our seas, shores and wildlife" and the other is "protecting whales and dolphins worldwide" with the help of David Essex. Or is there a subtext to this that I'm missing?
