Uses for an ex-Xmas tree ?

Well Cab, and anyone else : what do you do with your Xmas trees after the 12 days ? I'm thinking mostly of the chopped-down kind, rather than the potted or artificial.

I sometimes use mine to grow peas up.

Re: Uses for an ex-Xmas tree ?

We have a potted one, but my nearest sister normally "saves" her real, chopped down one and brings it round on her next visit in January. If I recall correctly we cut the branches off with secateurs and shred them the next time we get the shredder out, and the pole hangs about and eventually gets burned when it's good and ready. Peas sounds a good idea though.

I'm looking at using the bigger branches for growing peas up (early ones that benefit from having twigs).

The bottom of the trunk might JUST be thick enough to slice up for coasters. If it is, then someone is going to get coasters for Christmas next year, alhtough I'll probably have to saw a length off and let it season for a month or four before I cut them, dand them and stain them. I think it'll be wide enough for that. And the rest of the trunk will be a nice, sturdy pole, with the smaller twigs left on to grow a rambling squash up.
