uses for sawdust ?I seem to have a lot of hardwood sawdust [from sawing logs]
I know it takes ages to compost down, and if not fully rotted will lock up the nitrogen, because it is high in carbon.
What else can I do with it ?
Would anyone else like to do something with it ?

Composting toilet .
We've had to buy sawdust to get our toilet started as we haven't got a wood pile yet.
That's no help at all to you though, is it. Um, how about as a weed suppressing mulch between beds, then turn onto the bed once it has rotted down?

Dry hardwood sawdust? We burn it on a solid fuel stove. Slows down the coal. Ticks over nicely.

Put it on the floor in a pub. I miss pubs with sawdust on the floor.

I thought it was to soak up the blood from the fights, but I welcome the inclusiveness of pubs that do not discriminate against the incontinent.

Damp sawdust- clears up claydust safely!
(but softwood usually used)

Can you use it as bedding for small animals such as hamsters?

Hardwood sawdust - bedding for chickens, bedding for rabbits and then bung it on the compost heap. Use it as a mulch then bung it on the compost heap. I've used sawdust around leeks, potatoes and onions with great success. Compost toilet.

What type of hardwood? I would have thought that anyone with a smoker would be only too happy to have some from you.

Use for chickens, paths, mulch, potters use it in kilns for some types of work, craft work, Be aware that walnut, yew, laburnum can be toxic to horses and some other animals however.

I am building a house with it, well one long wall anyway.
That is in the form of Lightclay/wood shavings, the other walls are light clay straw, cord wood and a rather experimental one using ply for a stressed skin.
