Vanilla bulk buy Oct 09 LAST CHANCE TO ORDER

Ok roll up roll up.

Who wants some vanilla pods?

Prices will depend on the bulk of all orders. But as an indication we are looking at about 13p for 15-17cm ones 2% vanilla content.
(one size only now)

All plus postage costs.

If we can shift over 1kg then prices will go down.

Please post below how many you want or a £ value you want to
spend.

Have just worked out that paypal will want 3.4% plus 20p per transaction. As this is non profit making those costs will have to be passed on.

Do not care about which ones, and I guess I'm after 20 pods, or so. I could happily take twice that number if needed.

Sealed in a poly bag, in the dark and cool, mine were from our first purchase, I guess 2-3 years ago? And were fine!

years and even longer if added to castor sugar whole, the sugar takes on the flavour and you can use that before the pod, add 2 or3 in a smaller bottle (100ml) of vodka and you have a vanilla esence for cooking after 2 or 3 months, the alcohol burns off, keep them dry in an airtight bottle or tub and the go on forever it seems

Just about for ever. They do say to use then in one year but I am sure that that is just for liability. Stored in a glass jar out of the light & they keep very well. You can also steep them in vodka.

Have just had a response from the supplier.

The price will not change very much (less than 1/2p) even if we get to 4kg worth (we are at about 1kg now). The pod number variance per kg will have a bigger effect (poss 1p). Prob best to assume that the price will be 13p per pod unless I can find a cheaper supplier.

If the price becomes less or the pods per kg goes up I will add extra pods or adjust it with the postage costs.

A quick check & it looks like cost for postage will be
(UK mainland first class)

under 30 70p (its the 5mm thick rules or it would be less)

Richard, for the Paypal problem they allow personal payments that dont have a fee charged, I asked people to use this if they paid by paypal and so long as its a personal account not exclusively business they are fine, even with 20 or 30 personal payments coming in as what you are doing is not business but distributing to friends at cost.
I had over 20 paypal personal payments in 5 days and heard nothing from paypal.

Our Gourmet range of pods/beans are approximately 15-17 cm in length. These pods are moist, plump and have a distinctly chocolate/black colour without blemishes.
Other Specifications:
Vanillin Content: 2.0 %
Moisture Content: 25 - 28 %


Storing advice
Quote:
Vanilla pods actually improve with time. However it is important to store these pods correctly. Whilst Vanilla stored correctly will last almost indefinitely, you should use the pods purchased within 1 year.
You will need to follow a few simple steps:

On receipt, remove all packaging and store the beans in an airtight container (ideally Glass) in a cool, dark place. Do NOT refrigerate the beans.
If required, you may use food wrap or cling film to pack the Vanilla prior to storing in an airtight container ensuring that all air has been squeezed out.
Stored Vanilla needs constant airing. Remove the pods from the airtight container and expose to air for at least 15 minutes. It also helps if you mix the Vanilla pods by hand during this period. Ensure that your hands are clean. After airing, rewrap and place the pods into the airtight container. You should do this at least 4-6 times per annum.
You might notice white frosting/crystals on the pods. This is a perfectly normal occurrence. The white frosting/crystals are actually Vanillin crystals and may form from time to time. This frosting indicates that the beans are high in natural Vanillin and are of very good quality. However, please note that incorrect storage can also result in the formation of mildew or fungus. To ascertain if the discolouration is due to Vanillin Crystals or Mildew/Fungus, firstly, you should smell the affected pod to check for any odour and secondly hold the pod against natural sunlight. If the pod smells rotten and does not reflect the visible light spectrum (colours of the rainbow) the affected pods should be discarded as this can spread to the uninfected pods.
If any of the pods are dried, try hydrating them by immersing in lukewarm water.

UPDATE

Thanks to all of you that have paid & also thanks to all of you that have supplied an address.

Those of you that have done one or the other or neither please can I have them both ASAP. I wish to get these in the post TOMORROW AM so need both details TONIGHT.

The next lot wont get posted for at least a week & possibly much longer.


If any one want a last min purchase I still have about 100 left BUT they will not be at 13p plus postage as the total number of pods per kg was well below (286 not 320-350) what was advertised.

They are 15p each plus paypal fees plus postage at the same rate as before. Payment by PAYPAL ONLY.

Hi Richard,

Many thanks, I have received the vanilla pods. I knew what they were before I even opened them thanks to the delighful smell coming form the package! Very Happy I bet our postman has a lovely scented van now. Laughing

Having opened them up, wow! They are beautifully plump and look and smell heavenly.

I've had loads of mine pinched at work too. But I'm making them pay for them. Wink £25 seems like not altogether that much money, then I receive a pack containing 177 pods and realised that maybe I need to split them with more than just 2 other people (who only wanted 20 each!) So I was wandering round the office clutching my package and waving it under people's noses to entice them to part with a few quid. I can't wait to get my new oven so that I can finally bake loads of delicious goodies without them burning/not rising. I haven't made our Christmas cakes this year yet simply because I don't trust my oven with that volume of ingredients. So I'm going to bake them when I next come to visit DH in Bristol. God I hate my oven.
