Victorian farmers wife daysI hope it's okay to shamelessly promote my latest course here? Please let me know if it's not.
I've been very busy during September filming the follow on series to Victorian Farm for the BBC. I'm one of the experts and had great fun whilst filming, the series will be shown in the new year and is called Escape in time.
Meanwhile, back at Acton Scott Victorian Farm, I'm running Victorian Farmers Wife days. The day will take in a range of skills including butter making, cooking on the range in the cottage, caring for the pigs and hens, victorian laundry and a spot of rag rugging in the parlour. This day is, I think, ideal as a birthday or Christmas pressie and will be run with only 4 ladies at a time so that it will be fully hands on. The courses can be booked through the Acton Scott website where you will find full details or pm me to find out more.

It's a bit sexist doing it just for women isn't it?

Have you got a match making day so I can get the sprogs trained up to be match girls?

There's loads of blokey courses too and personally I'd have no problem with men coming on the farmers wife day.

Sorry for mullering your thread Jules
Sounds great, one day we shall come and learn with you, maybe en famille.

You should have been on the prog, we had different families every week, great fun!

Anyone who's following this thread would enjoy the programme on R4 - A History of Private Life. It was on during the day through this week, but I've just listened to the omnibus. Brilliant, and well worth a "listen again". It's a record of domestic life (pots & pans, recipes, remedies, servants, scandals, and projects - all told from diaries and letters. It continues next week. One of those little gems that you'd miss unless (like me) you are constantly tuned to R4

yes I heard it as I was driving home - such an improvement on those dire Friday evening dramas - I'd be happy if it was permanent.

Sounds fab, I must tune in. I have radio 4 on but not normally at that time.

Interesting material spoiled by the annoying delivery of the author. For some reason she feels the need to put massive emphasis on every other word, whether its justified or not - it's very distracting. I wish they'd used a proper actor/reader to narrate it.

Great news that there is a new series coming up. Are Ruth, Alex and Peter still doing it, Woodsprite?
|
woodsprite

Not this time. Its Ben Fogle, me and a few others this time

Thanks. Look forward to seeing you. Pity about the other 3, though. We loved their enthusiasm and occasional wicked humour.

Did you do filming anywhere else, as I thought they said at Morwellham Quay that filmig was happening for a Victorian programme?

That looks really interesting. Shame the dates are so close to xmas, if there had been one in late January or February when I'll have some money again, I'd love to have done this course.
