village eco weekend eventsJust sitting down after a full on eco group weekend. We are on the committee of the local environment network and last night we showed An Inconvenient Truth at the village film club and backed it up today with an eco afternoon in the village hall.
We made both events free to enter. Stalls today included TVEC who I've mentioned elsewhere, the local school with a rubbish sorting game, a display on power savings and standby usage. One on a villagers solar power installation; we sold local scenery cards and had a laptop with a carbon footprinting programme and had leaflets from wiggly wigglers, natural collection, and other companies that supply veg boxes, clothes or other eco goods. The local council was represented with a great stash of free cotton bags and recycling box information. Our main stall was our community woodland project. We've acquired a plot of land in the village and will be planting about 800 native english woodland trees and invited sponsorship of individual trees. Teas were provided by the PTA freeing us up to concentrate on the day. Oh and the guy that organised the apple pressing day we had in the village last autumn, bought the cider he'd made with the juice
It was well attended but not crowded which meant that there was time to engage with folk and have some really in depth conversations and really get them thinking about things in a different way. Talked out now here but a good thing to get involved with.
There are photos and a short video on our blog if you're interested further.

nice one!
I like community projects.....definitely the way to get stuff done. I've been working in the Conwy community orchard this morning....very therapeutic I think, clearing brambles and revealing long lost trees!
