Vista's file encryptionIs it any good? Is it reliable, trustworthy?
I've been using the freeware PGP v7.0.3 for donkeys, and need a replacement for the new machine.

I spit on PGP. Not the technology but the shark like practices of the vendor. Vista's encryption is pretty good. Microsoft has a good reputation when it comes to cryptography (IIS implementation of SSL is very hard to better in a web server environment). This is a little strange when you consider their OS security is at the other end of the spectrum, or was at least.

Ah - the PGP I currently use is the Real McCoy - the last of the Phil Zimmerman versions before NA took over.

Would you trust/use it to store your bank details or other sensitive information?

Are you referring to the Bitlocker drive technology on Vista Ultimate? I have thought of using that myself but not got around to it, sounds useful for a laptop in particular. You don't hear of many successful hack attempts but I expect many are trying.
As to whether it is secure enough to record your bank details on it, that is not an issue in my case, since the Inland Revenue have already released mine to the wider world courtesy of their lost child allowance CD.
