Wanted: patient understanding accountant in Ceredigion area.I try to do my own Tax Return, not a Return as such but a Claim for Repayment, not that much comes back. There is a deadline of 6 years. I used to be on top of it but am now finding it very difficult and am actually 6 years behind. I missed the last deadline which was January 31st, and they have moved my Tax Office from Belfast to Leicester (I think). I've got most of the relevant paperwork somewhere, complicated by becoming an OAP, and the dividends I've got, and the work of my stock broker has suddenly become daunting. I need an accountant to straighten me out and set things up properly but I have a terrible mental block. Could anyone in this area recommend a sympathetic accountant, if there is such a thing?

If you don't get anyone any closer we have a VERY sympathetic accountant in Newtown. Most of our correspondence with them is by post and email. |

Lorwri, filling in a tax repayment form is very easy in these internet days - have a look at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/refund-reclaim.htm . You may only need to fill in form R40 (which you can download, along with an explanatory booklet).
It's a bit of a fag to fill in, but if you have all the paperwork at hand and go at it methodically it's quite straightforward. If your income is so low you are reclaiming tax you'd probably end up spending most of the refund on the accountant! It might be worth ringing your tax office and asking them if you can use the downloaded forms for previous years, if not they'll send you the right forms and should be very happy to give you help and advice. I had to do several years back claims myself a couple of years ago, and if I can do it...  . Good luck - PM me if I can help further.

Wow, what a great help! I will get on to someone once I have got my act together and also got my voice back after a particularly vicious cold and cough - did anyone detect a note of self-pity in my posting?
