We've just recruitedFour more people.
It's not as drastic as it sounds as these have been placed using the GoWales scheme which is intended to help find FE students placements in industry.
The initial period is for 10 weeks in which the employer receives a contribution towards wages. This gives both the sides a chance to access whether the job is each others advantage as well as giving the applicant a taster in working in this industry.
After the 10 week period the company is free to continue the arrange as a part time of full time position if they think the applicant is suitable.
We hope to keep two on as full time if everything works out okay and the the other two as job sharing while they continue their education.
The interviews are done and the job offers have been placed, all have accepted. It's going to be a busy few weeks while we get them settled into their various roles ready for us to bring our new range of services online.

There are two ways to deal with a recession. Duck down and hope it blows over or innovate. History shows that innovators are more likely to come out of it at the other end as the market will have changed. Only time will tell whether we've done the right thing but we are confident.

We're going the same way as you, invested loads this year, it'd be nice to have support from the bank but it ain't forthcoming.

Innovation may take many forms though.
You could even regard innovation as a bad thing if that translates to flailing about and not concentrating on the profitability of the established core business assuming that the core is still inherently viable.
I think of Woolies in that regard, you could claim they "innovated" in renting out parts of their retail space to others, when they would have been better off correcting what was wrong with the core business.
For my own business I deem the core to be viable, and if it can be delivered cheaper, faster and better than the competition I will come through okay. Innovating away from the core would only be worth it, if there was a damn good idea to go with.

For us it's mostly investment in people and systems, the people bit is doing better than systems at the moment.

People and systems. I'm not sure which is the hardest to get right but making them work hand in hand is truly a black art.

It is, and if you get there you add a lot of value to your org. When we used to have that balance right (10 yrs ago?) we were a hugely profitable business that made our suppliers and customers good money too.
