what to knit with under 285 yards

http://simpleknits.blogspot.com/2008/03/500-patterns-to-knit-with-1-285-yards.html

found this list when i checked out the referring sites on my blog. found one of my patterns on her list and went to check out some of the others. Thought some people here may be interested in some patterns to use up small amounts of yarn.

That's a good idea. Does anyone know how to work out yardage? All of my yarns are UK ones in weights, and the Ravelry patterns are all in yards. I'm sure it must be very simple.

1.measure a yard if you've got sensitive scales, 5 or 10 if they're the usual sort (you don't need to cut it or anything)and weigh it, then work out how much a yard weighs and divide the total weight by that,
or
2, measure around the legs of a kitchen chair (the older ones seem to be about a yard and a half)round) wrap your yarn around and count the wraps, divide by 3 then double the answer to get yards.
3 or set up two upright things a yard apart, wrap wool, count wraps and half it.
4. If you have one with a band on, convert the length from meters to yards, weigh any without a band and guesstimate from there

I'm such a idiot. I got a niddy noddy for Christmas, I could just measure a wrap of that, and the maths! Thanks everyone - I'm blaming a late night and a dent in the gin.

if they don't give yardage on the ballbands, then you should be able to find out yardage for most stuff, unless it's an unusual vintage thingy
