Wheel driven mowerActually, I don't know what it is called - wheel driven mower is our description. We have about three acres of meadow that is too rough for the ride on type of mower but it does need cutting. We have looked at all the options and have decided that the best thing would be to get one of those mowers which can be pulled, [a quad bike will do it], the motion of the wheels turns the blades. The local authorities used to use them some time ago but before we start looking in earnest we need to know exactly what they are called. Does anyone know? |

OH uses a pulled thingy on the farm, and that's called a topper as Judith said. Don't know how close a cut you can get on them though. It's used for the fallow fields to keep them manageable, and for the stubble once the combines been over it, and before it gets ploughed.

Thanks folks for the replies - we have looked at some toppers but the ones we saw need a power take off and that means a tractor. We only want a rough cut - just to keep the meadows under control and the brambles and thistles down. I know goats would probably be more effective but we want to develop a garden as well. Anyway, thanks for your interest and advice. Perhaps a trip around a secondhand place may be the answer. |
