who's sowing what now?OK, what are people sowing now for cropping in the coming months?
I've just sown some salad leaves and rocket, and am thinking about onions.. why do people grow onions? they are usually so cheap and I think you only get one onion from each set...is that true or did I make it up?
I'm also sowing some more Cavalo Nero for cut and come again, last sowing was early July... only a few plants showed but unfortunately they got weeded by accident over the weekend...

Got more kale to plant out, then some over wintering onions (may as well, got ground to spare over winter), and of course garlic (next month), broad beans (November).
Recently sowed spring cabbage (second lot for small cabbages in spring) and turnips.
Self seeded rocket coming along very well.
Mostly now its a continuation of the stuff thats been growing all summer for winter use.

I'm at that stage too ...a few gaps appearing in the jungle that could be filled with quick growing edibles.
Is it too late to plant Spinach for a cut and come again crop?

Ain't too late to plant it. Dunno whether it would be any good though
Forgot to mention, also planted some first early peas, they often come up for a late crop very well, and if not its good green manure.

I've got a spare 'topless' cold frame that's looking for a job, so might try to create a bit of a warmer climate with that.
Peas! - good idea.

Your problem is pollination; mine went in a fortnight ago, they ought to do okay so long as they start flowering before the frost arrives, for which we'll need more rain. I'd say sowing first early peas now is about 50:50.
I'd say either maximise your chances of getting some really early ones with a variety like hatif d'annonay, or take a risk of them surviving through winter for a really extra early crop of pea shoots and maybe some peas, with a variety like feltham first (which seems nigh on indestructable). I've sown feltham first.
Tastiest pea of all in my opnion is hatif d'annonay. Better again is golden sweet mange tout, but thats one for sowing in spring.

Spring cabbage and purple sprouting seedlings went in at the weekend. Mizuna and rocket have just come up in-situ, garlic chives and sorrel have been sown in the greenhouse.
I bought a packet of mixed oriental cut and come agains from Pennards Plants at the Wisley Flower show at the weekend, so they'll be sown in the greenhouse tomorrow.
We've also got some calabrese seedlings that need to go in, but I need to clear the eaten cabbages and pea sticks out first, will do that tomorrow.

Running a little late on some of this, but just sowing Mizuna, Pak Choi, Chinese Cabbage, Land Cress and Winter Lettuce into plug pots this afternoon. First time for all of these - not tried any winter veg before.

I popped some violetta broad beans in to see what happens, and scorzonera (sp) - even though that ought to have been last month

September sown coriander is the best, depending on weather you can be harvesting from as early as March next year, and it'll be juicy and succulent for ages before it even thinks about bolting.

Must sow the skirret seeds this year, as I forgot to last year.
No idea what the germination rate will be like - anyone know how well old skirret seeds are likely to do ?
