Wierd apple treeI have an apple tree in the back garden that is nicely laden with fruit ("Sunset" is the variety). Imagine my surprise when I found that as well as the fruit it also has two blossoms just opened . Has anyone come across this before? Do you think the tree will be affected for next year's blossoming in spring?

This has happened most years with one tree, and now another has done the same. Think it coincides with the new woody growth, especially if there's a warm spell after lousy weather.

Yes, it looks weird, but is quite common. As LynneA says, it is often caused by sudden changes in weather over the summer, especially where there is a period of cold bad weather and then a return to warm conditions. The tree thinks winter has just happened and it is spring again.

Thanks for the replies LynneA & Orrangepippin. Never seen it before so was a bit worried that the tree was not going to fruit next year. Presumably I can ignore the blossom?
