Wireless broadband in a hotel - how to set it upI run a B&B and I want to give people wireless broadband access so they can use their own notebooks when they're staying with us. I've always used wired broadband from a single PC in the past. Is it easy to setup? What do I need etc?
Any advice v much appreciated.
Thanks

You'll need a wireless router, something I know nothing about.

You need a wireless router and it needs to be open and unencrypted.
You probably need to draft some terms of use so people don't abuse it.

It all depends on the shape of your building as well - you may find that you need more than one wireless hub to make sure all the rooms get a signal
I can help you sort it out - I've even got a spare wireless router you can use as a tester to see if the range is enough for the whole building
Send me a PM if you want a hand

Hmmm.
For a really small operation, you could maybe get away with being as informal as that.
I'd still suggest that using encryption - and telling guests this week's password - might be a more attractive way to start. Guests might prefer the thought of their traffic being protected against casual evesdropping...
Just as an alternative suggestion - especially if its only for a few rooms - why not wire up a network socket?
But putting a network socket (or two) in a public area would control most of the possible abuses and would still allow guests to catch up with their news, email, etc
The big bugbear is controlling, or even monitoring, what the guests get up to. Is one going to set his machine up to download movies all night - and so ruin the quality of the service for everyone else? (Nevermind the taking advantage side of things.)
The answer to such problems is a much more elaborate router.
But that's much, much more expensive than an ordinary domestic one.
The word to include in your Google search is "hotspot".
That is the general term for a wifi internet access location that is available (usually on terms) to the public.
