Wireless death.FF3 has just crashed on me, and since then, I've been unable to access my wireless network at home. Had to revert to a cable.
Clicking on repair fails, as it claims it can't assign me an IP address. Any thoughts?

Have you rebooted the router?

Yeah, turned everything off and rebooted it all. Nuffin doing.

When this happens it's normally either because DHCP is enabled and an IP address is being dynamically assigned, or something else has pinched the static IP address you were once using.
Or there is the possibility that you network card isn't working properly.

So, any suggestions how to ID and fix the first 2? The network card...it suddenly died if that's the case. Possible?

Go to the control panel, network settings (or connections). Right click - > properties, double click TCP/IPv4. If you're being assigned a dynamic IP address you shouild see all the boxes being greyed out and 'obtain an IP address automatically' is checked.
If that's the case then your PC is expecting to be assigned an IP address by your router. If your router isn't acting as a DHCP server then you need to do some manual configuration.
If you have an IP address assigned then it's possible that another device or service has pinched it.
Try running netsat from the command prompt.

Hm. It's all set to automatically find an IP.

Hmm. Ours does that sometimes ... you can force it - try
IP address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

That may work. Check your router manual.

What is IP address and gateway on the cable NIC?

I see all the words, and yet it makes no sense....
I've given it those values, but still no internet, although it tells me the connection is working fine.

The wireless card may have died. Try the same values as the cable nic, if that doesn't work then... without being there it's difficult to diagnose.

I think that vegplot might be right. Or, the wirelessy bit of your router has had a fit. Can you get in to the router settings and see what it thinks it's IP address is?

The wireless icon thingie is green, and says I'm connected. Would that mean the wireless card is OK?
The router is working fine with other wireless devices. No idea.
I'm about to go away, so I'll take my PC and hope it connects to other networks. Failing that, I look forward to many hours on the phone with our German IT help desk.
I may be gone sometime.
Thanks, anyway!

Okay, that sounds like your router is fine. It might have just got confused ...
Good luck on other networks ...

Unplug the cable connect wirlessly & then try to accese the modems control page (normaly 192.168.1.1 or some thing like that) if you can then you are connected to the router via the wirless.
