Do you have to set it up via cable first?

yes, the setup programme knows the printer is there, but it doesn't seem to br able communicate with the printer via the wireless.

Have you enable printer sharing in windows?

i have no idea!
the setup tells me that it can't comunicate with the printer, and that i need to ammend the wireless settings. I have made doubly sure that the network name is the same, and the WEP key is the correct one. the only difference is between the IP address for the network and the printer. Should they be the same?
have temporaily installed via the USB to get a print job done, but want to get the wireless sorted so i can move the pronter somewhere more convenient.

All the items must have their own IP address
Once I have sorted out what I am up to I will pop in to take a peek (will be a few days if you can wait that long)

1. Determine the IP address of the printer - usually you can print a
configuration page and find it there.
2. Start the Add Printer wizard. Do not select Network Printer - select Local Printer and clear any check boxes for auto detection.
3. Select Create new port - select Standard TCP/IP port and configure it with the IP address of the HP.

can i do it like that now that the print software is installed (with the USB connection) rather than using the setup disk?

What printer is it, or have I missed that bit?

When setting up a network using the Wireless Setup Wizard, does the SSID (network name) display?
If not try this solution:
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
Use the Enter a New Network Name (SSID) option in the Wireless Setup Wizard. For more information, see the user guide that came with your access point and check the access point settings.
Make sure adequate signal strength is maintained between the All-in-One and the access point or computer. Assuming the equipment is functioning properly, try doing the following things separately or in combination to establish a good signal between the All-in-One and the access point:
If there is a long distance between the computer or access point and the All-in-One, move them closer together.
If there are metal objects (such as a metal bookcase or refrigerator) in the transmission path, clear the path between the All-in-One and the computer or access point.
If a cordless telephone, microwave, or any other device that emits radio signals transmitting at 2.4 GHz is nearby, move it farther away to reduce radio interference.
The SSID option may not be visible on the display as it is at the bottom of the list. Press the down arrow button to scroll to the bottom of the list.
Make sure the firmware for the access point is updated.
Make sure the wireless adapter is broadcasting the SSID.
Print a network configuration page from the All-in-One. The SSID for the wireless adapter appears on the network configuration page.
Make sure the firmware for the wireless adapter is updated.
Enable MAC filtering, but change the settings to allow the access point to communicate with the All-in-One.
NOTE: The MAC address is referred to as the Hardware Address (MAC) on the HP Network configuration page.
Make sure the Ethernet cable is unplugged.
NOTE: If an Ethernet cable is plugged into the All-in-One, the wireless radio turns off.

I 've never done a wireless printer but the IP subnets of the two IP addresses should be in the same range. Probably going to be 192.168.1.something. The woreless router should have assigned an IP address for the printer to it
