Wonderberries

What can I do with them?

Grown them for the first time and not overly keen on them, they're a bit weird in taste.

Shame really as they appear to be excellent croppers!
Pilsbury

jam, icecream, cordial, fruit leathers.....

what is weird about the flavour? to sweet, sour, then we can think of something to add to make it better

Hard to describe, a bit tasteless actually Confused

I'm too lazy to google it... Whats a wonderberry?
Pilsbury

Maybe something savoury, sauce for chinese pork, fruit vinigar for salad dressings.....

Well, it is Saturday morning Wink Also known as the Sunberry.

Quote:
The wonderberry is a man-made cross between Solanum villosum and S. guineense, produced in the early 20th century by renowned plant breeder Luther Burbank. It closely resembles the wild garden huckleberry, and adding to the confusion, this common name is often used to describe the wonderberry as well. However, the flavor of the wonderberry is far superior to that of the garden huckleberry.

It def needs to be paired up with something because it's rubbish by itself. I got free seeds years ago from somewhere, only got around to trying them this year.
Pilsbury

I googled it for you
http://www.tradewindsfruit.com/wonderberry.htm

this site warns they taste of not much but suggest a pie filling with plenty of sugar
cab

Oh, a garden huckleberry Smile

Stew it down with some sugar, make a flat plate pie with it. Lovely, and bright purple Smile
Rob R

Do they call them that because when you come to harvest them you wonder why you bothered?
