Wood and food offered in return for work! Camper/ bender

Dear downsizer,

myself and my partner live on twenty acres of land which we co-manage in North Devon. We call this piece of land Silent Haven. We are in the process of finishing off building our wooden cabin home on this piece of land. We operate according to permaculture principles and use minimal power tools, organic growing techniques for our veggie patch, and a scythe to cut the grass. We have recently acquired our first livestock in the form of three ducks.

We have some ash in the hedgerows that may be cut this autumn and winter, if you would like it, in return for you doing some work for us, as we could really do with more hands on deck to help us finish building and keep the veggie patch going etc.

You will be welcome to put up a very temporary structure by way of a small bender made from wood cut from the woodland. This you would live in, so you would have to be very hardy to say yes to this. We have an outhouse but that is likely to have someone else in it. You can stay with us for up to 3 months, if you can hack the weather, and we are urgently looking for people from now onwards. Alternatively you can stay in the carpark in a campervan if you have one.

You will be experienced in woodwork, please, whether green woodwork or the other kind, and you will be happy to use handtoools e.g. hand drills and hand saws etc. The working conditions are not the easiest. It can rain quite a bit here!

We will feed you well.

ALTERNATIVELY if you come and work for us for a few weeks, we will repay you the same number of working hours at your place another time, must be after February though. (It could be just in your house, doesn't need to be a smallholding).

Thanks for taking the time to read this far!

Regards

Matt, also on behalf of Jules.
