Ah yes, the wood gassifiers. I've wanted to make a wood-fueled tractor for some time, but don't have much of a machine shop, or a spare gas engine tractor to play with...
The technology has been around since at least World War II, and the Swedish have put some great designs out there

Running just a personal car on wood is very naughty.
This video is really exciting - it's the one thing I've seen recently which gives me most hope about still being able to get rice and avocados... (If I'm still around )
I suppose you either love or hate this sort of thing.

I though wood fuel cars were old hat. Ok they were called steam powered cars but the fuel was wood.

I wouldn't fancy a steam pipe running through the cab. Perhaps one of the old rear-engine VW vans would be a good base.
Does it need a fireman /stoker in the back? I should imagine the range would be quite short. A more practical solution would be a pellet-burner.
I suppose it's a good alternative to methane-powered.

Producing gas from wood has been around for years and it wouldn't be too hard to design a modern car to run on wood gas rather than LPG for example. Surely it would make sense to just carry the gas rather than huge piles of wood?
