That sounds so very familiar Laughing I've been banned from buying any more wool until I make something already Rolling Eyes

Buy a number of downsizer bags (they all look the same but hold different stashes) and dot them round the house - I am sure my OH thinks I only have one wool bag Laughing
BahamaMama

I think I need one of those clear plastic boxes with a lid - then I can see what I have got and hopefully it will keep the pesky moths away. I have some beautiful wool and I am concerned that the critters will get to it before I do Mad

sally_in_wales

Um, if I'm feeling really brave I'll take you a picture of the visible bit of my yarn stash in a minute, it will make you feel better, honest.
Frewen

At present there is wool in the loft, in my wardrobe, under my bed, in the middle room, in the car and in my knitting bag.

Not all of it yarn - but a significant proportion is Razz
sally_in_wales

ok, this is just the 'working stash' there is also a wardrobe full 5 or 6 cardboard boxes on top of the wardrobe full, a vast wicker hamper full, a wooden chest full and various heaps bags and baskets full
Feel better about your small heap now??
Laughing

Can someone also explain why odds-and-sods ends of balls are not good enough anymore and I need alpaca wool?Embarassed

In my adult life I have only knitted 1 jumper and 1 and a quarter pairs of socks, but I have managed to acquire (amongst other items) Blue Faced Leicester roving to be dyed and spun, neither of which I can currently do Very Happy .

I blame you lot...
Frewen

Felt the blue faced leicester instead? Razz

Oooooh, like your thinking! Felted thingmas decorations?

I've asked for a drop spindle (is that the right name for them?) for my birthday.
Chez

I have just sorted out my stash and given it away. angel10

Well Sally that is impressive - and have you 'stashed' it all on ravelry? Laughing

some of it Laughing
mochyn

My stash is MUCH smaller than that. Just showed the photo to the old chap.

I just need to tidy mine, really. Or use some more of it.

This woman should be banned! Smile

I am going to be ruthless just before the Fibre weekend and bring down stuff with me.

Rolling Eyes Groan. Laughing

I have the opposite problem. I've been knitting an awful lot (mainly toys and baby things) and just have a small tub for a wool stash. In fact I'm waiting until I'm in a fit state to go yarn shopping before I can begin any new projects.

You lot don't know how good you've got it! Razz

I have already tried fulling some of Rob's wool - and it doesn't want to play Razz

Knit while you can Tay - because as soon as possible that child will be pulling needles and yarn away from each other Rolling Eyes

Mostly because if I come round your house I'll leave soapy water on the kitchen floor and scrub it with a matchstick blind Laughing

Promises promises.

I wouldn't - it makes the floor stripey! Well, at least some of it's clean!

No, now I have wool envy! Laughing

HAPPYTECHIE, LOOK!!!

And it looks very tidy in there, Sally, is that a strategically taken photo? Wink
mochyn

I now have 'organized stash' envy. It looks so tidy, Sally. The old chap says if I get rid of a load of books I could have something similar in the library.

I don't think he means I can buy a ton of yarn, though. Crying or Very sad

That is just not fair! How can a woman be expected to make that kind of decision? Nearly as bad as himself saying I can have chickens instead of the kitchen garden! My stash is only a few odds and ends, anyway.

So it's not just me then? I've only dared wash it at 40 degrees. Have you washed it any hotter?

I fulled a hat made in it on a 40 'eco wash' (whatever that means) and it did fluff up and tighten a little, not a huge amount but that wasnt what I was after
wellington womble

Doesn't your washing machine clog up with fluff, Sally?

I washed it at 60 - after I had attached it to a Nuno piece of felt and knitted it on.

It did what Sally says; tightens a bit but loads of stitch definition left, so I had to cut it off and go with raw fleece.

I have just got a new toy (embellisher) and have a washing machine with a strip of fabric and raw mule merrily washing away. I wonder what that will do?
sally_in_wales

not as yet, have killed a machine through constant felting, but I bent the drive shaft, not fluff Embarassed
wellington womble

Oh good. When I stuff up our drains, I'll make sure himself knows you said it was OK Wink

Maybe Rob should start marketing Kerry Hill as natuarlly washable wool?!

why are all my replies to your posts no?

edit
I'm Fee's inner self that knows we don't have the free space for that level of wool! Not untill my cold feet have some socks, and who logged in to downsizer on happytechie's laptop as Fee
wellington womble

Because you're a spoilsport. My OH is just the same! Tch Wink
mochyn

In "How to Make Felt" Anne Belgrave gives pictures of various brreds of fleece and how well they felt. For example, Merino = the best felter and Clun = slow to felt.

Presumable Kerry Hill is closer to the latter category.

Live right next to each don't they?

it looks like my fabric stash!
if i coul get my phone to put ipccies on the puter i'd show you. camera arrives soon Razz
KrisWW

That is a most Awesome Stash Sally and I am truly humbled. I thought I had a decent stash, but even with five boxes of stock, it's still not that big.

Must try harder...

Very Happy

Apparently alpaca felts really well. I've not had the courage to try it yet, but I've got some gorgeous yarns that I really want to have a go making a good winter hat with.

and yes, alpaca felts really well Very Happy
dottyspots

Ooooh, I'm humbled too - although I probably have too much for the size of our house. I've hidden quite a bit of mine in drawers that should be for clothes.

I've seen some of Kris' stash, she has some open shelves crammed full, it looks lovely, I wish I could do that with some of mine, but then dh might get an inkling of just how much I have (and will then use it as leverage to buy something really useless for himself, thus using up any spare cash that I would otherwise be able to use to buy more stash or books...)

What do you call a mere box and a half of yarn? An embarrassment? A stashette? A stashling? A failure? I am such an amateur... Embarassed
sean

A realistic amount to own?
mochyn

A paucity? An insufficiency? A scarcity?
Fee

If only I'd known 3 months ago when I first started stashing that things were going to get so much worse so quickly Laughing

I can't walk past a shop selling yarn and find myself swooning over yarn online (and sometimes the mouse slips and accidentally clicks that 'buy me' button, especially when I see the PayPal logo...damn you Rob Mad Laughing).
colour it green

now Himself has taken up spinning, he understands the stash need.. the storage need.

am trying to get rid of my vast amount of DK by turning them into socks. then i will have more room for more stash!
