word settingsI m sending out a questionnaire and have put lines in where respondents can type comments. What do I need to do to the word document so that you can type onto these lines without all the formatting going haywire - ie so the layout of the document as a whole is maintained?

If you use a non-proportional (fixed-width) font, then the formatting shouldn't go awry when people overtype.

OK, so how do I do that? I have already typed the document.

The easiest way is to simply Ctrl-A to select the whole document and change the font, but that will probably knock some of your formatting out.
I think that if you highlight the spaces that you have allowed for people to type in their responses and change that to something like Courier, then that should also work. The answers will then also stand out from the questions, which might be a good thing too.
(I confess I haven't tried this, but it should work in theory).

I tried that but no joy. It won't let me overtype.

That's very odd.
Just to ask the maternal grandparent egg-sucking question - you have pressed the Insert key first?

Have you put in lines (as in drawings) or lines (as in lots of underscores)?
If you've done the former then you'll need to rights click on them, select 'properties' and then find the setting that locks the position of the line to the page rather than text.
If you've don the latter then don't use underscores, use spaces with underlining switched on. You'll then need to get people to have 'overtype' switched on and it'll look like they're typing on the lines. Until they start deleting things that is....
Have you considered pretty boxes...?
