workshopsIs there a dearth of studio workshops in other parts of the UK. Looking on the internet there seems to be quite a few dotted around, but NONE in Oxfordshire at least local to us. What if anything can you do to find one, local ads dont work, new build projects are extorionately high, although some offers are made as these premises cant be let but are still out of reach financially. I am told there is a recession on, do I believe it when rents asked are so high. House overflowing with wool, material, embroidery, metalworking etc. weaving ,you name it weve got it and NO WORKSHOP. Help Im being overwhelmed.
Ok another cuppa before I start on the gin again

oh I feel your pain, really I do. Fantasizing about spacious outbuildings comes a close second to fantasizing about finding the floor in more than one room at once here

Do those fantasies come above or below the one revealed in your location description..??

Know what you mean Jenn - I am in North Bucks just over the border with Oxon and the position is the same here. I would like to set up a small business dyeing yarns and fabrics and supplying materials for mixed media artists - old photos, postage stamps, vintage fabrics, w.h.y.. I have sacks and sacks of yarns, I have lots of dyes and endless bits and pieces - all in a storage unit because I have no space at home. I don't imagine making a huge amount from this but the cost of even a basic shed round here is prohibitive (if I could find one to rent - they are all full of horses or classic cars!).
How come the Govt. can't find some funding for something positive rather than just ammo and bank bale-outs. If I ever win the lottery I am going to set up a foundation to provide cheap live/work accommodation for artists and craftspeople.

Have to say, wipka, I am surprised that properties are available at such reasonable rates - I will be checking out this site too. Thanks for posting the details.

sueshells, the only goverment funding/local grant funding I have been able to find is for 'sustainable' products. which is safeguarding the environment etc. all good in its own way but if there is no support for small rural craftspeople who in their own way are supporting the environment by making things locally and not using transport to send goods all around the country and are using to the best of their ability sustainable yarns etc, then we will have no genuine craftspeople in this country at all, only 'bought in' from third world countries'
