Would birds still be sitting on eggs now?ie If in clearing some undergrowth I spy a nest with eggs still in it is it likely to still be a live nest?

Yes, it's possible. Quite a lot of birds have a second go when the first lot have matured I think.

The vast majority of our smaller birds have two broods a year.
If there are eggs definately leave it be.

Yep - second that. Leave it well alone. As already said, a lot of birds will go for a second brood.
I'm going to leave it a good few weeks yet before I tackle our rather bushy hedge! It always starts to look really scruffy at this time of year!
