XP

If a computer is loaded with Windows XP home, is it possible to upgrade it to XP Pro, or is it necessary to start again from scratch?

There is a possible IT project in the offing that may need remote access and i understand that the XP Pro version is needed for this to be possible.

Depending on the type of project a "free" internet service will allow almost any PC / OS to remote access.

On the upgrade yes its possible IF you have the upgrade CD not the FULL install CD. As always take a backup before doing it as things can & do go wrong.

Even with XP home you should be able to use "third party" software to make the connection.
Does the PC that needs connecting to have a fixed IP?
If so then things are much easier (but fixed IP's cost).
If it does not have a fixed IP then use www.logmein.com You only need the free service as you dont need to to be invisable or lots of pc's. You can then use the remote PC as if you are actualy in front of it & can also transfere documents.

Depending on what they are running you may be able to access their network via a remote desktop in IE.
