I'm thinking I'd like to keep ducks rather than chickens but can't decide which. Being veggie, I'm not too bothered about them being dual purpose but on the other hand, am a little worried that something like a KC is too flighty to hatch it's own eggs. Same possibly true for runners? What do others recommend? I'm wondering about Magpies perhaps though obviously you don't get as many eggs, or I suppose I could hatch them out in the incy. And have always liked the look of runners.... you see how the dithering starts....

Help me!

I'm going this Saturday to buy 12 Khaki Campbells. They are the best laying ducks that you can get and aren't too big and and nice and active.

Apparently, they way to do it is to get a good strain of Khakis ... Katie Thear talks about one that begins with a K, can't remember, will look it up. And then have a few Muscovies to act as mother.

I'm going all the way up to Preston for them this Saturday. They'll be coming back home with me to North Wales. I put a post on here about them a week or two ago. They are POL and are costing me nine pounds each.

Oooh, that is exciting

Can you PM me the details of where you got them and I'll give them a ring. Think I'm headed up north this Thursday maybe, so might be able to combine trips with a bit of judicious fiddling about. Shame I didn't see your post earlier, that's the problem with being an intermittent DSer Oh well.

Here are the guys details.

R. MILLER
Nr Preston Lancs.Tel:01772 613791 Khaki Campbells

This guy also rears most of the current hybrid chickens that we see advertised and instead of the normal rob dogging prices, he sells good quality stock at POL for 9.00 each.

The ducks that I've had off him are real crackers and like peas in a pod. All of them are neat and smart.
