Just catching up on the new post prices that come in from 30 April

its a huge rise for most small parcels- at the moment one that costs £1.58 is going up to £2.70.

I'm going to have to update the shop post calculator and am really not looking forwards to it, most people's orders are going to go up by about £1.20 for no perceiveably good reason, and I havent even looked at the airmail hikes yet

How are the rest of the small businesses here tackling this, I just can't absorb these rises into profits, in many cases its more than we make on smaller items, but I'm afraid it will put people off ordering by mail

I charge postage at cost, so no choice but to pass it on, it's still a lot cheaper than any of the alternatives. Will also buy my stock of stamps in April instead of May, for the year ahead.

I'm going to have to charge more for postage.
the small packet rise is loads - but it does cover up to 700g - so at least i can offer further purchases at no extra cost in the same parcel.

I may have to get into making bigger things. And creative packaging.

and because it covers up to 700g - i dont have to worry about the weight of cardboard etc... pity i bought those lightweight mailbags now then....

There was bloke the other day who either had, or was going to buy four grands worth of stamps. Its obvious, that if you have the use for them, your money is better in stamps than in the bank.

Inland post increases pale to insignificance compared with the price increase for sending small parcels abroad. There's going to be an 80% hike. Suddenly, a world thats been getting smaller, is going to look a lot bigger. A parcel that cost £1.69p to post is going to go up to £2.80p

At the moment, I can post out a dozen chicken hatching eggs for £4.90 p first class. I dread to think how much they are going to add to the price after April.

I charge separately for P+P in the pricing, so it will be obvious that it's the post and not me! Simplifying the packet rates does in a way make it easier to calculate, but it is quite a hike for the smaller stuff

What I find unbelievable is how difficult it is to find the new prices Where are the leaflets?? I am a Royal Mail online customer why haven't they emailed their customers to give the new prices? Having said that it was clear that postage was going to have to go up as so much of what you order now comes by other carriers.

If you have the funds, you can buy stamps which state "second class" or "first class" rather than a price on them and still use them after 30 April. So get a small hoard together which could take you through Christmas cards and birthday cards at least.

All 1st and 2nd class stamps are like that. RM haven't produced stamps bearing the current 1st and 2nd class 'value - actually visible - for yonks.

I thought that. I remember it being brought in so that people didn't end up with defunct stamps after a rise.

I think that's just a fortunate spin-off for the consumer. It saves RM a lot of faff - recalling, reprinting, re-issuing etc.

you can only use them on letters you can't use one on a packet and top up with ordinary stamps
