I think I'll remember it and can search (you've seen the front door) but I didn't get any of your first sentence.

Thanks all. I'm not in the market for a Passivhaus grade door - just trying to find something which is reasonably well insulated but comes in under a grand...... How quickly my goalposts have been moved : only yesterday I was thinking in the region of £3 -400

I think one of the above will do a door for your budget that performs quite well

OK Tahir, I'll ask them for a quote. Given what I've been looking at though, I'll be astounded if they're anywhere near my budget

Gimme a shout if you don't get anywhere, I'll ask our architect; We had a cheap one knocked up for our larder (external to the insulated envelope )

I made a curtain from a £5 Army surplus blanket and 45yo fabric inherited from my Dad's house. It's hung on the back of the original 80yo front door (which looks much nicer from the outside than any replacement door would) and stops all the draughts. It seems a pretty Downsizery option to me .

I am in the process of doing one at the moment. It is patchwork, and is going to be padded with some felt that Val from the Wooly shepherd made for me, from our alpaca fleece.

My problem at the moment is I have no idea just what a W / m2K equates to. If a 1.6W / m2K door is £600 cheaper than a 1.2, just how long will it take £600 worth of heating to leak out of it?? It's a rhetorical question, I know there's no answer to it but my guess is it's longer than I need to worry about

You're probably right, especially if the rest of your house is drafty. You need to ensure that it's fitted well too
