when I say "everywhere" I should clarify that I knew where the rats were hanging out, & left poison in the appropriate spots

I don't leave poison outside because the geese are very nosey & taste everything; Wonder Dog is more cautious, but as he's now 10 I don't take any risks

So far no vermin has returned to the house...this may be due to Stanley, our very active cat, that we believe to be a few months old, no firm age as he's a foundling...but to see him eat/play with his food, I wouldn't want to be a mouse

They want to build 2,500 on local farm land I could never live in one as I've seen the size of the rats while walking the dog.

A local dairy farmer recently asked me to shoot some in a barn where she stores feed. It'll never get rid of them all but damn, it's satisfying

shooting them is satisfying but in an urban terrace back yard i think my multishop pcp and night sight may attract unwanted attention

although it is well suppressed for noise should anyone catch a glimpse of a sniper in an upstairs window the look of the scene would cause most folk to call an armed response team and helicopter support.

I've got more rats than ever this year.

They are in my back garden, sometimes see them from the kitchen window... doesnt help that next door put lots of food out on the bird table for them.... I've shot 2, missed 1 or 2... tried putting poison down but it was difficult to put it somewhere it didnt get wet as they have a run along the dry stone wall (and inside it) and have a hole going down into the ground under my hydrangea bush....

I have poison down in the shed, in a tray on top of a heap of sand, its very interesting to see all the footprints / tail marks in the sand, some nights they seem to have quite a party there...

And whatever you do, do not shout "Allah Akbar" when you get one!

Well, we tried trapping and it worked for a while and then they got wise whatever the bait and the position.

We also tried eradibait - which means the body is not poisonous to anything that eats it. Recommended by the Barn Owl trust as a lot of owls die from eating poisoned rodents. That works fine providing there isn't much other food around. (This time of year is pretty good for eradibait in rat runs.)

Now we have two young hunting cats. We have set up cat flaps in the outbuildings so they have free range in there.
Sorted.

as we live in a terrace with only access for bin bag collection rather than wheely bins and thanks to the state buying aircraft carriers ,subsidising bankers etc etc rather than paying bin men to visit weekly there is plenty of food for rodents.

the owl/hound friendly poison bait sound a possible though
