Moved into our new house a couple of weeks ago.

I have a huge garden with lots of interesting plants / shrubs / trees, sadly the only thing edible is an apple tree, but I have no idea what variety they are.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

this might help

having said that im still not certain what the 100 yr old trees im supposed to be looking after are yet

i have narrowed it down to one but there are a few anomalies in the id.

there are about 7000 named types so it can get a bit complex

ps as it is a young tree it might be a lot easier than my problem

my id is all ok till i get to the "prone to every pest and disease known"line cos after a long life and at least 40 yrs of neglect and abuse by mower and small children most are healthy as it gets

you could take some of its apples and a photo of the tree to an apple day in October.

If they're ripe now, you'd have to hope the apples survive in the fridge till late October for an Apple Day iD. You can send apples to Brogdale or the RHS if you have an older tree but from what I can see, it looks like a no more than 5-7 years old so should be easier to find out. Do you know anything about the previous owners, were they a) mail order specialist, b) garden centre or c) Aldi bargain box tree shoppers? What does the apple taste like?

Have a look at these pictures https://www.orangepippintrees.co.uk/apple-trees and then https://www.orangepippin.com/ for more information.
